What is a Bridal Trunk Show?
If you are beginning your search for a wedding dress, you’ve probably come across the term trunk show on websites and social media posts. The phrase trunk show may sound mysterious or expensive. As your bridal experts, we’re here to explain all you could possibly wish to know about bridal trunk shows and how you can benefit.
A bridal trunk show is typically a weekend only event where you will have the opportunity to see and try on the newest gowns from a specific designer in our store. During the trunk show, we will temporarily receive dresses that were recently created and modeled for promotional purposes on the Chicago, New York and International runways. At the conclusion of these industry fashion shows, the gowns are packaged in trunks and sent to local bridal boutiques (like us) to showcase to our brides. This is where the term trunk show came from! The dresses are typically the actual samples the models wore. Therefore, we do not sell the gowns from the trunks but instead advise that the trunk show gowns are available to order but a lead time of 3 to 8 months is common.
If you are obsessing over a particular designer, a trunk show is for you! Bridal Boutiques rarely have the space or budget to purchase every dress available from a designer. However, during the Trunk Show, an extensive selection is the attraction. You’ll have the opportunity to see more dresses than ever at a single location. The extra special bonus to brides is that you’ll also have introductory pricing or some type of gift with purchase. Designers will usually authorize the shop to discount their dresses by a specific dollar amount or percentage during the Trunk Show. Another option may be that the designer is giving a gift away with your purchase, such as a veil or goody bag rather than a monetary discount. These authorized bonuses are always amazing! But, please be aware that as soon as the weekend show concludes, the sample dresses are quickly packed up and returned to the manufacturer. This also means the discount or gift with purchase ends as well.
