When to begin Shopping for your Wedding Dress!

by | Jan 9, 2020 | Bridal

Did you just get engaged this holiday season? Congratulations! How wonderful! You’re probably ready to begin trying on wedding gowns right now! But should you begin dress shopping as soon as he puts the ring on your finger?

Our first recommendation is to simply relax and enjoy being a bride-to-be! Don’t rush to your nearest bridal shop to begin looking for a dress. Instead, before you even consider entering a Bridal Boutique, take the time to make some initial plans such as selecting a venue and a wedding date. The month and location of your wedding can dramatically influence the style of gowns and fabric options that are appropriate.

Then, after your date and venue are confirmed, it’s time to determine your gown budget.  Before calling the bridal boutique, have a specific idea how much you can really afford. Confirm this price-point with anyone attending your appointment to make sure they respect your budget.  When you schedule your appointment, ask if they have a wide selection of gowns in your price range. Keep this amount etched in stone and never try on dresses that exceed your budget. In our experience, you’ll end up disappointed because you fell in love with a gown you cannot afford.

Plan to begin your shopping about a year in advance of your date.  Wedding dresses typically take up to 8 months to arrive directly from the designer. Production time varies greatly by manufacturer and season.  Surprising to most brides is the fact that Designer Gowns are not hanging on a rack in warehouse in the United States, waiting to be ordered. Instead, an overseas factory often begins production after sufficient orders have been requested. Each dress is made to fulfill an order request.  Therefore, it is important to order early! This also protects you from having your dream gown discontinued or subject to a price increase.  For this reason, it’s never too early to say yes!

Congratulations again on your engagement! Relax and enjoy this special time. Most bridal salons are very crowded after the New Year and appointments are at a premium. If you are not under a time crunch, then relax. Only after you have determined when and where your wedding will take place, should the dress shopping begin…
